Shabbar had expressed his inability to continue as FBR chief

Former Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi informed Prime Minister Imran Khan a month ago that he would not be able to continue as Chairman FBR due to health issues.
This was confirmed by sources close to the former chairman to this correspondent who added that the Prime Minister tasked Shabbar Zaidi for a suitable person to be appointed as Chairman FBR. The new Chairperson of the FBR Ms Nausheen Javaid Amjad (BS-22) was appointed with the consent of Shabbar Zaidi, sources further claimed.
Zaidi did not formally resign but his contract was terminated. Asked whether Zaidi was aware that his contract had been terminated sources claimed that the summary for the appointment of new Chairman was drafted in consultation with Zaidi.
Zaidi went on sick leave from January 6 to January 19, 2020 and on medical leave from February 3 till the termination of his contract. In his absence, Nausheen Javaid Amjad was assigned the look-after charge of the post of chairman FBR.
