The dollar gained slightly against the rupee on the inter-bank market on Friday in the process of trading activity, marketmen said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: RATES: The rupee fell modestly versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 166.90 and Rs 167.00 respectively, they added.
In the final Asian trade, the dollar edged toward a 2% weekly rise on Friday, boosted by a surge in the oil price and as investors sought safety amid the worsening economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
The gains consolidate the dollar's strength after a rollercoaster end to last month, when it soared in a scramble for cash, then slumped as the US Federal Reserve flooded the market with liquidity.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at 75.940, the greenback was at 4.355 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 7.091 versus the Chinese yuan.
