Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi have thanked Chinese billionaire and Alibaba creator Jack Ma for donating much-needed medical supplies to Pakistan, as the country battles against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thank you Jack Ma for helping Pakistan out in this time of need,” said Ali Haider Zaidi on his twitter account.

The federal minister added, "China has always been a true friend and brother of Pakistan! Inshallah, we will fight this menace of coronavirus pandemic and come out stronger.”

The statement comes after a plane carrying medical supplies from China reached Karachi on Wednesday. The medical supplies were donated by the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation contains five million face masks, including N95 masks and 50,000 testing kits. The supplies have been sent to help the country battling with the coronavirus outbreak.

Pakistan has so far reported over 1,000 confirmed coronavirus cases while eight people have died of the virus. Meanwhile, the provincial and federal governments have implemented a string of measures to curtail the spread of the pandemic. There has been a complete lockdown in Sindh for 14 days while a partial lockdown is in place across Punjab.
