Big quantity of smuggled cutch/catechu seized

Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Preventive has seized huge quantity of cutch/catechu (Kattah) worth Rs 12.8 million from a warehouse near Naurus Chowrangi, Karachi.

According to an FIR, the department has received credible information that some unscrupulous elements secretly stored considerable quantity of smuggled cutch/ catechu (Kattah) at a warehouse located near Naurus Chowrangi and would likely to be removed from that premises shortly.

Reacting on this information, a team of MCC Preventive staff has reached the place and conducted the search that led the recovery of large number of gunny bags stuffed with Indian origin cutch/catechu (Kattah). As no one came forward to claim the ownership of the recovered impugned cutch, therefore all the gunny bags were taken into possession and shifted to State Warehouse, Keamari, Karachi.

Thorough examination of recovered Indian origin cutch/catechu was carried out which resulted in the recovery of 320 slabs of Kattah packed in wooden boxes wrapped in gunny bags and each bag weighing 50kg and total weight was 16,000kg worth Rs 12.8 million. Consequent upon recovery, a case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
