As other countries like the United States, Russia and Germany confirm their first cases of the novel coronavirus, Pakistan too has confirmed it fifth case on Tuesday.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Health Dr Zafar Mirza took to his Twitter handle and said that a fifth case was confirmed in the federal areas. He assured that the patient is stable and is being managed well.

"I request the media to respect the privacy of the patient and the family," he tweeted.

The female patient, 45, is a resident of Gilgit. Her samples referred to the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, tested positive. The patient has been admitted to an isolated ward of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan government announced that all educational institutions will remain closed till March 7.
