5 guards among 11 injured in IJT, PEDM clash

At least 11 people including five security guards were injured as a result of clash between Islami Jamiat-Talba and Pashtun Education Development Movement in Punjab University on Friday.

According to the details, the clash started between the students at Sociology Department. The members of both groups thrashed each other. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospital where the doctors said that they were out of danger.

Heavy contingent of police reached the varsity campus soon after the incident. The police controlled the situation and immediately arrested the students of both groups who were involved in creating law and order situation on campus. The Varsity Spokesman said that the situation is under control.

The university administration held an emergency press conference to give details of Friday's incidents. PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Resident Officer 1 Col Omer Khalid (retd), Chief Security Officer Col Ubaid Masood (retd) and other official were present on the occasion.

Talking to the media, Dr Khalid Khan said that around 12:45pm, a quarrel erupted among the activists of Pashtun Educational Development Movement (PEDM) and Islami Jamiat Talaba after some discussion near Sociology Department in which activists from both sides received injuries. After receiving information, the university security staff reached the spot instantly and also sent an alert to the police because it was estimated that there might be another quarrel among the students soon.

Dr. Khalid said that meanwhile, the university received information that PEDM and Punjabi Council activists were beating some students near Admin Block's mosque. He said that the university security staff reached the spot instantly and rescued the students to avoid any clash among student organizations further.
