PML-N submits resolution in PA to summon APC on coronavirus

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA through a resolution has demanded to summon the All Parties Conference (APC) to evolve a joint strategy to counter the problem.

The PML-N MPA submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly seeking awareness campaign on government-level regarding coronavirus precautions. The resolution further states that the federal government has not taken any significant step for the prevention of this disease.

It may be noted that Pakistan has confirmed two cases of coronavirus, one in Karachi and other in Islamabad. However, precautionary measures are being taken to prevent outbreak of this disease.

On the other hand, some 82,560 people have been infected worldwide by coronavirus and 2,813 have died, according to the latest toll from official sources. The number of deaths in mainland China - excluding the semi-autonomous territories of Hong Kong and Macao - stands at 2,747, out of 78,497 cases. Over the previous 24 hours, 433 new infections have been recorded there.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has called upon the government to take emergency and serious measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

He stressed the need for coordination and cooperation between institutions of the federal and provincial governments to ensure flawless functioning of this system. He also demanded calling a meeting of the Council of Common interests. He said the federal and provincial governments must collaborate to form a joint strategy to safeguard the population.

Moreover, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of reports about the unjustified increase in the prices of protective masks as well as its shortage.

He sought a report from provincial administration as well as the health department and directed to ensure availability of protective masks at the actual price.
