Minister opens Hyderabad's first farmers' market

Sindh Agriculture Minister Mohammed Ismail Rahu inaugurated first ever farmers' market at Expo Center, Hyderabad where stalls of vegetables, fruits, pulses, seeds and other edible items were set up to provide edible items to poor and middle class people directly on cheap prices.

He was talking to the media at the inaugural ceremony of Farmers' Market at Expo Center, Hyderabad on Sunday. He informed that prices of vegetables, fruits and other edible items in farmers' market were even lower than utility stores and added that sellers and buyers would be benefited by direct business as there was no role of the middle man in the farmers' market.

Rahu said the federal government was responsible for deterioration of agriculture as it increased the prices of electricity, petrol and gas causing increase in agro items, he claimed.

He said the Sindh government was well aware of the situation and working on agriculture, lining of water courses, canals, drip irrigation system and small water courses to get the maximum yield. He said even though the Sindh was given less water yet we got good yield of wheat, we were trying to get even more yield of wheat as well as rice, sugarcane and cotton in this fiscal year, he added. About locusts, he said, "We informed federal government about locusts last year and also keep informing the federal government but implementation on the decisions taken by the federal government for locusts were not seen.
