The Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared on Tuesday the dissolution of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) as null and void.

During the hearing today by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, the high court has ordered that employees of the council be reinstated, local media reported. Declaring Pakistan Medial Commission (PMC) illegal, the court has also ordered its dissolution.

The PMDC was dissolved after President Dr Arif Alvi promulgated an ordinance in October. The president had approved a new organisation PMC to be run by a nine-member body and the head of the commission would be called president.

Following the promulgation, the registrar of PMDC, Brig (retd) Dr Hafizud Din and 31 employees had challenged the presidential order. The petition said that the services of the PMDC employees were terminated without giving them a proper opportunity of hearing.
