Increase in gas prices: ECC to consider proposal today

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet would consider today (Tuesday) a proposal of Ministry of Petroleum for increase in gas prices from February 1, 2020.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh would preside over the ECC meeting to consider the six-point agenda items including the proposal for gas price increase which was deferred during the last two meetings.

The ECC would take up the Interior Ministry's proposal of technical supplementary grant for payment of compensation to the victims of suicide attack at District Court F-8 on 03-03-2014 on the direction of the Supreme Court order. Another proposal of Ministry of Interior is for transfer of funds to the Ministry of Defence as technical support grant - logistic support for the maintenance of Cessna aircraft.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has forwarded a proposal for 8 percent minimum income tax for National Telecommunication Corporation and creation of digital media wing in the ministry to the ECC for consideration and approval.

A proposal of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority has been filed for conversion of loan into grant in the name of government of AJ&K being beneficiary of the loan. There is also a proposal of Commerce Division on the agenda of the ECC with regard to amendment in SRO 192 (1) 2019, dated 11-02-2019, extending exemption from regulatory duty to export oriented units (EOUs).

The ECC meeting would also be given a presentation on policy for enhancement of cotton production in the country by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
