Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan met on Wednesday Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the IGP briefed the prime minister regarding the law and order situation across the province. The meeting comes in the wake of the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s request for replacing Imam.

On Tuesday, the federal cabinet meeting had decided against the appointment of Mushtaq Mahar as the new IGP. Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, said that the PM  directed Sindh Governor Imran Ismail to once again discuss names for the new IGP with Shah.

During a presser on Tuesday, Imam said that a big conspiracy was being staged against him.

In January, the provincial government wrote to the federal government seeking the removal of Imam, levelling serious charges relating to law and order against him. In the letter, the provincial government had also suggested new names for the post.

The Sindh government suggested Dr Kamran Fazal, Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar as its additional IG.
