Two Motorway Police officers awarded President Police Medal

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali zardari has conferred two officers of National Highways & Motorway Police President Police Medal on their bravery and good performance.

On the night of November 9,2009 two officers of motorway police SPO Aftab Ahmed and PO Sagheer Ahmed foiled an attempt of robbery in a bus through commando action on GT road in the area of Lalamusa in Gujrat district and busted a notorious gang which was involved in numerous robberies.

After exchange of firing one culprit Imran Hussain s/o Muhammad Ibraheem arrested in injured condition who later died due to severe injuries. The other members of the gang were also arrested; arms and ammunition were also recovered. A judicial inquiry was also ordered by the government to know the real facts.

Judicial inquiry by District and Session Judge Kharian Mukhtar Ahmed Ranjha confirmed that the incident occurred, and it appreciated the bravery and performance of these NH&MP officers. The names were recommended by the department for police medals and finally the President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan conferred the awards of President Police Medal (PPM) on the bravery of SPO Aftab Ahmed and PO Sagheer Ahmed.

Monday a simple ceremony was arranged to dcor the awards to these two officers.

Inspector General, National Highways & Motorway Police Wajid Ali Khan Durrani decorated the awards to these officers and congratulated them on receiving these awards. IG, NH&MP Wajid Ali Khan Durrani while speaking with the media said that it is the highest recognition of bravery in the police department.

He said he himself have been awarded Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM) and President Police Medal (PPM). He said that the officers of motorway police will continue to set the examples of bravery in saving the lives of the people.
