Another electricity bomb is in the offing, after it was learnt that the electricity rates are likely to be jacked up by 98 paisas per unit.

As per details, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a rise in electricity prices. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to hold hearing on January 29.

Last month, 7 billion 20 million units of electricity was generated, the CPPA told that electricity generated cost Rs25 billion. With electricity getting expensive, consumers will an additional burden of Rs10 billion.

Last month, the electric power regulator NEPRA approved a hike Rs1.56 per unit increase in electricity prices, which add a burden of Rs14.50 billion on the pockets of consumers.

The request for increase in electricity prices in the wake of the CPPA monthly fuel adjustment.

The CPPA had argued in the petition that in the month of October, 25.48 percent of electricity was generated from water, 12.17pc was generated from local gas whereas, 25.41pc was produced from imported LNG. Meanwhile, no electricity was produced from high speed diesel.

Nepra also slammed K-Electric a hefty tariff increase of around Rs4.8 per unit on account of quarterly tariff adjustment.
