Fake bank accounts case: NAB files another reference

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday filed another reference in the multibillion rupees fake bank account case titled 'Bahria Icon Tower corruption reference,' naming a property tycoon, his son-in-law and others as accused.

The NAB officials following the approval of NAB Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal (retd) filed Bahria Icon Tower corruption reference before the Accountability Court. The Bureau has nominated Malik Riaz, Zain Malik, Liaquat Qaimkhani, former Director General (Parks), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), former Pakistan People Party (PPP) Senator Yousaf Baloch, Dr Dinshaw Anklesaria and others as accused.

According to NAB, the accused had allegedly allotted welfare plots, which incurred losses of more Rs 100 billion to national exchequer. The accused are allegedly involved in illegal allotment of Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim land to Bahria Town for its Icon Tower in Karachi, the reference further said.

According to the report of joint investigation team (JIT) that probed fake accounts case, Bahria Icon Tower, Pakistan's tallest twin-towers (102-storey) project is under-construction on the land of M/s Galaxy Construction Pvt Ltd and precious Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim land is one such discovery where land grabbing and money-laundering became very evident.
