The decision was taken during a meeting of Cabinet members under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recommended the inclusion of Maryam Nawaz’s name in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case in the ECL, after which the Cabinet approved the recommendation.

The NAB had recommended that Maryam Nawaz’s name be placed in the ECL in the said case.

In its request, NAB had stated that Maryam Nawaz is an accused in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case with her father Nawaz Sharif and investigations of money laundering are underway.

The accountability bureau stated that PML-N vice president’s name should be included in the ECL in as she might fly abroad.

On December 24, 2019, the Federal Cabinet had decided not to remove the name of Maryam Nawaz from the ECL.

In her petition, Maryam Nawaz pleaded that her father Nawaz Sharif’s health deteriorated and he was under medical treatment out of the country.

She said that being his daughter, it is her responsibility to take care of his health. She requested the court to issue an order for removal of her name from the ECL.

She also requested the court to return her passport.

It is pertinent to be mention here that Maryam Nawaz's name is already on the ECL in Al Azizia reference, which she had challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The LHC has fixed Maryam Nawaz's plea seeking removal of her name from the ECL on January 15.
