THE RUPEE: Recovers more grounds

The rupee managed to shed more weaknesses against the dollar and euro on the money market on Friday in the process of trading, dealers said.

According to reports, the dollar fetched 109.57 yen in Asian trade, against 109.51 yen in New York late Thursday.

Amid lack of buyers' interest in the market, the greenback remained under selling pressure for another day and ended further lower for buying and selling at Rs 154.70 and Rs 155.25 against the overnight closing rate of Rs 155.20 and Rs 155.95 respectively, local currency dealers said.

Similarly, the local currency also observed the same pattern in relation to the pound sterling that was bought and sold at Rs 201.35 and Rs 202.30 against the Thursday's closing trend of Rs 201.60 and Rs 203.50 respectively, they added.

The dollar opened at Rs 155.60(buying) and Rs 155.70(selling) against last rate of Rs 156.30(buying) and Rs 156.40(selling).

It closed at Rs 155.60(buying) and Rs 155.70(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs 91,200 (selling) and Rs 91,000(buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
