Iran-US tension: Meeting held to chalk out pre-emptive security steps

In the wake of growing tensions between Iran and the United Stated, Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat on Thursday called a high-level security meeting to chalk out a preemptive strategy for anticipated protests and demonstrations in the metropolis.

The meeting was held at 90-Shahrah-i-Quaid-e-Azam, and attended by Additional Chief Secretary Home Momin Agha, Commissioner Lahore Division Safe Anjum, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IG CTD, CCPOs of all Punjab, DIG Operations Lahore and all major leaders of the Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Islam, Shia Ulema Council and Shia Wafaq Al-Madaris.

Speaking to the participants, the law minister said the Punjab government wants to protect the lives of protestors and properties of the people. In this regard, the protesters are requested to observe standard operating procedures (SOPs) as settled by the district administration for their protection, he added.

Assuring the minister of holding peaceful demonstrations, the religious scholars said that they will fully cooperate with the administration as security and stability of Pakistan was their top priority too.

On this, Basharat directed the law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of the protesters and public properties and said "it is our strong wish that unity and consensus should be created in the Muslim Ummah besides strengthening the bilateral relations with Islamic countries".
