Two killed, 13 injured in Quetta blast

At least two people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries in a powerful explosion in the provincial capital's McConaughey Road, officials and rescue members said Tuesday.

The blast took place near a vehicle of the Frontier Corps on Mekangi Road, according to rescue members. The wounded persons included two security personnel. The blast shattered the glass windows of nearby buildings and shops. The sound of the explosion was heard far and wide, causing panic among the people.

Large contingents of security and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area shortly after the blast. However, its nature was yet to be determined. The area was cordoned off as an investigation into the blast got underway.

A spokesperson for Civil Hospital Quetta confirmed that 13 injured persons were brought to them.

Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal condemned the blast saying that miscreants once again want to destroy the peace of the province. The CM Balochistan said that efforts to ensure long lasting peace will be taken.

Condemning the bomb attack on FC personnel, Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove termed it an effort to destabilize the country. The minister directed for best medical facilities to the injured persons.
