ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution reposing confidence in Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and urging not to adopt any unconstitutional procedure for his disqualification.

"This House reposes complete confidence in the Prime Minister as the constitutionally and democratically elected Prime Minister and unanimously elected Chief Executive of this country," said the resolution presented to the House by Law Minister Farooq H Naek.

The House commended the Prime Minister for upholding the majesty of law by personally appearing thrice on being summoned by the Honorable Supreme Court and showing great humility and respect to the apex court.

National Assembly also appreciated the firmness and dignity displayed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in upholding the constitution and the parliamentary democracy in the country.

The lower House reaffirmed to consider unconstitutional any procedure for disqualification of the Prime Minister other than the one laid down in the constitution.

"This House also wishes to reaffirm its belief in the constitutional procedure for the disqualification of the Prime Minister from holding the office and that any other procedure adopted will be considered unconstitutional," stated the resolution presented by the Law Minister and adopted by the House with majority.

The main opposition party PML-N who had once voted for the Prime Minister to elect him unanimously kept protesting in the House and chanting slogans when the resolution was adopted.
