Attack on PIC: Law minister asked to hold in-camera briefing

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Thursday directed the Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat to hold in-camera briefing for the members of the assembly on the lawyers attack on Punjab Institute of Cardiology on December 11, 2019.

Pervez Elahi gave these directions after the adjournment motion of PML (N) MPA Safdar Shakir in which he said that tragic incident took place due to the negligence of administration and police. He demanded that government should take action against the police officials who were involved in the incident. Pervez Elahi directed the law minister that arrangements should be made for the in-camera briefing of Inspector General Police Punjab for the members of the assembly on this tragic incident. The speaker referred the adjournment motion to the Special Committee 6 of the House.

Law Minister Raja Basharat said report of the chief ministers committee on this incident had been received but since the matter is sub judice government is unable to public the findings of the report. However, after the court's decision, the government will take action against all those who were declared responsible of the incident in the report.

Punjab food minister Sami Ullah Chaudhry said that he don't know the Council of Common Interests' decision that now determining of food standardization is a federal subject. He also said that as far as he knew that it is a totally provincial subject after the 18th amendment and the federal government had nothing to do with it. He said that Punjab Food Authority is doing a good job and the Supreme Court had also appreciated the work of the PFA.

He was responding to the Minan Naseer who was on point of order said that recent meeting of the CCI it was decided that determining of food standardization is now a federal subject. He said that it is a totally provincial subject and PFA is doing a good job as the authority had taken action against the multinational companies who were involved in the manufacturing of low standard drinks. He alleged that powerful mafia was behind this decision that was not happy with the decisions of the authority.

Food minister Sami Ullah Chaudhry while responding to the point of order said the government should ensure that sugar mills should not stop crushing during the season.

While speaking on the point of order PPP MPA Shazia Abid criticized government for increasing power tariff.

Earlier, the audit report on the Accounts of the Expenditure of Government of the Punjab for the Audit Year 2017-18 was laid in the House.
