  • Nawaz Sharif is currently in London undergoing treatment.
  • The bench will also hear Nawaz's plea challenging his conviction in the case.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed December 18 to hear the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) petition against the sentence handed to Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference.

The IHC will simultaneously hear the former prime minister's appeal against the jail sentence handed over to him by an accountability court in the Al-Azizia case. NAB had moved the high court challenging the accountability court's verdict in handing seven years jail time to Nawaz. The bureau wants the court to extend the jail term.

Nawaz is currently in London undergoing medical treatment there. He was granted bail on humanitarian grounds in the Al-Azizia. The former PM also obtained bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, from the Lahore High Court.

Nawaz was handed seven years in jail in the Al-Azizia corruption reference last year by an accountability court. The accountability court had also fined Nawaz Rs1.5 billion and US $25 million in the Al-Azizia reference. The court had acquitted him in the Flagship reference.
