'ChildLife committed to saving 1m kids this year'

ChildLife Foundation is committed to saving as many as one million children this year after successfully extending and running pediatrics emergency rooms in 7 government teaching hospitals in Sindh," Dr Ahson Rabbani, CEO of ChildLife Foundation said this in a statement on the occasion of World Children's Day which is being observed on November 20.

ChildLife supports UNICEF's resolve by observing World Children's Day as this year is extra special as it marks 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - 30 years of child rights that have helped transform children's lives around the world.

"We believe that health care, especially quality emergency care, is the basic right of every human including children and we are working with the government and citizens to play our role in providing that," he added.

"ChildLife Foundation has treated around 2.5 million children during the last 9 years in all ChildLife emergency rooms and we are working with Sindh govt to give all sick children in Sindh access to world class emergency services within 30 minutes from their location," he added.

The Foundation has 7 state-of-the-art model emergency rooms in Sindh including - People Medical College Nawabshah, Chandka Medical Hospital, Larkana, and 5 hospitals in Karachi including Civil Hospital, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), and Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5, Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and more such facilities are being planned in Hyderabad and Sukkur. Besides Sindh, the foundation is also working to set up a Children Emergency Room in Quetta.

Moreover, ChildLife is using Tele-Medicine to reach remote areas and to improve the quality of care given in ERs.
