Train inferno: Senate body moot turns into in-camera session

The parliamentary panel met with Muhammad Asad Ali Khan Junejo in the chair here on Tuesday to have a detailed briefing on recent tragic incident of fire in Rawalpindi-bound Tezgam Express near Liaqatpur, Punjab, on 31st October 2019.

The committee offered Fateha for the departed souls. Sikandar Sultan Raja shared the initial findings with respect to accident and stated that the incident took place at 6:25 am when fire engulf two economy and one business class coaches near Liaqatpur. He said 75 people died and 40 got injured.

The injured people were shifted to Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan and Liaqatpur hospitals. The Rescue 1122, Pak Army and local administration actively participated in the rescue operation and soon after the incident a control room was set up in the ministry while senior railways officials rushed to the spot.

The federal inspector of railways, who claimed to be the first among top railways officials to reach the spot, started briefing. However when he sought secretary railways' permission for briefing the committee about the incident, the latter expressed displeasure.
