  • The office has been sealed and record was taken into custody.
  • President Alvi has approved a new organisation called Pakistan Medial Commission.
  • The new medical commission is expected to start operations within a week.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has been dissolved after President Dr Arif Alvi promulgated an ordinance.

The building of PMDC will be sealed for a week while the record was taken into custody on a weekly holiday. The president has approved a new organisation Pakistan Medial Commission (PMC) which will be run by a nine-member body and the head of the commission would be called president, local media reported. The new medical commission is expected to start operations within a week.

In a statement by the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS), PMC shall be a body corporate consisting of the Medical and Dental Council, the National Medical and Dental Academic Board and the National Medical Authority, which will act as a Secretariat of the Commission.

The NHS statement also added that the new ordinance will begin a new era with reference to regulation and control of the medical profession by establishing uniform minimum standard of medical education and training and recognition of qualifications in medicine and dentistry.

"In order to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to ongoing medical and dental admissions, the Ministry of NHS will be taking necessary steps immediately for the supervision and overseeing of the admissions process to ensure it is properly completed,” statement added.
