India's economic belligerence

Updated 21 Oct, 2019

Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohammad has demonstrated a lot of maturity and statesmanship that he obviously derives from his very long experience in governance and foreign diplomacy. According to him, Malaysia will work diplomatically with India if it decides to restrict imports of Malaysian palm oil. He has reportedly made these remarks following reports that India was considering curbing imports of some Malaysian products, including palm oil, after Kuala Lumpur criticised New Delhi for its actions in occupied Kashmir.

In my view, Malaysia is willing to pay the price for raising voice against New Delhi's Kashmir action. Mahathir Mohammad, along with Imran Khan and Tayyib Erdogan, has effectively internationalized the Kashmir issue for the chagrin of Narendra Modi-led BJP government.
