  • Over 1,300 athletes are set to participate at 2019 World Beach Games, in Doha, Qatar.

Pakistani wrestler Inam Butt has set his eyes on gold medal for Pakistan at 2019 World Beach Games as he departed for the event being the only athlete to participate from Pakistan.

“Alhumudulillah, I am the only sportsmen from Pakistan to qualify for the 2019 World Beach Games. I qualified for the international event after becoming the world champion, after winning the medal in World Series,” said Butt on social media.

“I would request to pray for me, that I am able to raise the Pakistan flag again and send the message to the world that Pakistan is a sports loving, peaceful nation,” he added.

Inam further said that he would give his best to win the medal for Pakistan and dedicate it to his Kashmiri brethren.

Butt grabbed the only gold medal for Pakistan in Commonwealth Games 2018 held in April last year, after he completely outclassed his opponent Melvin Bibo of Nigeria in the final of 86kg weight category. He has previously won the gold at Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.

The 2019 World Beach Games, officially known as the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019, is being held in Doha, Qatar, with the opening ceremony on 12 October.

Some 1,240 athletes from 97 nations would be participating in the event in various sports including basketball, football, karate and wrestling.
