An accountability court extended on Wednesday the physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the PML-N leader before the court as her 12-day remand ends today. The bureau also produced Yousuf Abbas, the PML-N vice-president's cousin in the court. During the hearing, NAB requested a 15-day extension, however, the court approved a 14-day extension in Maryam and Yousuf's remand. The duo will be presented in court again on September 4, local media reported.

On August 8, Maryam and her cousin were arrested by NAB from outside Kot Lakhpat jail where she had went to see her imprisoned father Nawaz Sharif. The bureau had summoned Maryam to fill a questionnaire in the CSM case. However, she had not appeared and went to see her father. A NAB team arrived at the jail and detained her.
