Karachi's issues to be resolved on priority basis: Ali Zaidi

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi on Sunday said Karachi was the economic hub of the country and its all problems should be resolved on priority basis.

Talking to a private news channel, he said the federal government was ready to provide every possible help to provincial government for resolving the issues of Karachi.

He said waste and garbage was a major issue of the metropolitan city which would be resolved gradually, adding most of dirty Nullahs of the city would be cleaned till August 14.

The minister said a huge amount was required to make the city clean and hoped he would managed that amount by himself.

He said the drive would be carried out in two phases. In the first phase all six big drain Nullahs of the city would be cleaned while in the second phase, garbage would be taken out of the city.

He said the drive would be carried out in cooperation with Karachi Municipal Corporation and Local Bodies, while Frontier Works Organization and NLC will play important role for the purpose.

Ali Haider Zaidi appealed the citizens to abandon the use of plastic bags and bottles to make the Karachi Clean Campaign a successful.

He said there was need of speedy work on the garbage projects in which 200 Mega watt electricity could be produced from Karachi garbage.

He said the people of the city should come forward and play their due role for making the city as neat and clean and work together in that regard.

He thanked all of those who were joining the drive and participating for making the Karachi as clean.
