Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif vowed on Friday to take strict action against senators who had 'sold off their conscience' during the voting to unseat Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

Speaking at a PML-N senators meeting, the leader of the  Opposition in the National Assembly said that 14 senators had led to the rejection of the no-confidence motion against Sanjrani. He promised that these senators will be identified and strict action would be taken against them, local media reported.

The PML-N president further said that the opposition will come together to prepare an action plan over this matter. Earlier he wrote on Twitter, "Horsing trading won and democracy got undermined again today. It is not just Opposition's loss. We will get down to the bottom of the matter and those who sold their conscience will be exposed."

On Thursday, the opposition, which had the favour of 64 votes of the no-confidence motion, only got 50 votes and failed to remove the Senate chairman. The total votes required to unseat the Sanjrani were 53. This implicated that 14 voters from the opposition had possibly defended Sanjrani.
