After foldable phones, looks like Samsung is looking forward to launch foldable augmented reality glasses, as seen in its latest patent applications.

Tech giant Samsung already launched its foldable phones earlier this year and is now moving on to developing AR foldable glasses according to its patent submitted to the US Patent & Trademark Office, first spotted by Patently Apple.

The picture shows a foldable device that looks like a pair of glasses, but with thicker frames where it will house its electronic components. Also, instead of having a power button, the device can automatically switch on whenever it is unfolded, and switch off when folded, reported Venture Beat.

When unfolded, the glasses’ projector, which is located on the temple, would beam images on the tiny display placed over the wearer’s field of view. Also, in order to ensure that the device is not accidentally turned off if the user turns their head wrong, the firm is looking forward to use magnetic sensors to ensure that it remains in the unfolded position until the wearer intentionally fold them back.

As always, the foldable AR glasses are only a patent and there is no way of knowing if the glasses will ever become reality. Also, if they do, there are chances that the final product could end up being greatly different than the current design, as per Engadget.
