The Foreign Office clarified on Tuesday that reports of Prime Minister Imran Khan visiting Russia to attend Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on President Vladimir Putin's invitation are speculative.

The FO spokesperson Mohammad Faisal took to his Twitter handle and wrote that reports appearing in media regarding the premier's participation in EEF in Russia are speculative. He further wrote that both the countries remain in contact about engagement at the highest level.

"Any announcement in this regard would be made formally at appropriate time," the spokesperson added.

Last week local media had reported that the premier was invited by the Russia president to attend an economic conference in Vladivostok in September. The conference is scheduled to be held from September 4 to September 6 in Vladivostok.

It was also reported that the invitation was extended by the Russian president to the prime minister during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting last month.
