Pakistan’s top order batsman Babar Azam's prolific run at the ICC World Cup 2019 reaped him a number of rewards as he climbed four places to become the third best batsman in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

As per the latest ranking ICC ODI Player Rankings, Azam cemented his place at the third spot with 827 points, just behind his career-high second place achieved in June 2018.

Azam became Pakistan’s most successful batsman in a single World Cup, as he 465 runs in the ongoing tournament, beating the likes of the legendary Javed Miandad by 28 runs, as Miandad scored 437 runs during the much celebrated 1992 World Cup. Saeed Anwar was the third on the list with 368 runs the opening batsman accumulated during the 1999 World Cup.

Meanwhile, India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli maintained his grip at the top spot, after scoring five half-centuries in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 but opener Rohit Sharma has bridged the gap after a stupendous run in the league stage of the 10-team tournament.

Among the bowlers, Pakistan’s rising star Shaheen Shah Afridi climbed up 34 places to 23rd after the speedster grabbed Pakistan best bowling figures in the World Cup. Pace spearhead Mohammad Amir also jumped up 28 places to 12th spot.
