Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that Pakistan will continue to wholeheartedly play its due role for Afghan peace progress.

Addressing inaugural session of a conference on Afghanistan titled Lahore Process at Bhurbhan, Murree, the foreign minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has for long been personally committed to peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

"We are determined to build our bilateral relationship of principles of non-interference, mutual respect and common interest,"Qureshi said. The foreign minister further said that the decades long conflict has brought huge suffering to both the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He said for too long the vicious circle of mistrust which is often fed into by common enemies has affected the relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He added that the blame game has neither helped either of the countries.

"We must not allow our respective territories to be used by anyone to the detriment of our interest. We must also be vigilant of the other forces that wish to create misunderstandings and divisions among us," the minister added.
