NAB takes Hamza Shehbaz into custody

Updated 11 Jun, 2019

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Tuesday Punjab opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz after he withdrew his petitions for bail in two corruption cases from the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader appeared before the high court in the cases pertaining to Saaf Pani Company, Ramzan Sugar Mills, money laundering and assets beyond known source of income.

During the hearing, Hamza's lawyer withdrew the bail petitions of his client after which the LHC bench, headed by Judge Mazahir Ali Naqvi, rejected the bail applications.

Speaking to the media before his arrest, the PML-N leader said that not even a one rupee corruption could be proven against him. He said he will 'quit politics' if it is proven that he has any involvement in corrupt practices.
