Eid likely to fall on June 5: Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said that the moon will likely be sighted on the 29th Ramazan and Eid will then fall on June 5.

The minister had earlier announced in a video message that the lunar calendar has been prepared and sent to the Council of Islamic Ideology. He added that the website hosting the calendar will be also be completed.

On Monday, Chaudhry had also invited Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman and Shahabuddin Popalzai to see how the moon cycle works. He further said he wanted the clerics to see for themselves how easy science has made it to predict the lunar calendar.

After assuming the charge of Federal Minister for Science and Technology earlier this month, Chaudhry constituted a committee to finalize a Islamic calendars for exact dates of Ramazan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul Adha and Moharram for next five years with 100% accuracy. The minister had said the calendar will be prepared by 15th Ramazan.
