Punjab govt rejects Bahria Town’s offer to build Dadhocha Dam

30 Apr, 2019

Turning down Bahria Town's offer to build Dadhocha Dam, the Government of Punjab told Supreme Court (SC) that it will build the dam itself by 2021.

The SC bench, headed by Judge Azmat Saeed, resumed the hearing on Tuesday regarding the delayed construction of the dam. Representatives of the Punjab Irrigation Department told the bench that government's technical experts had gone through Bahria Town's proposal and raised a total of 108 questions, local media reported.

The representatives told the bench that the government will itself carry out the court's order and construct the dam at its original location. The secretary of the irrigation department told the apex court that the dam will be constructed within two and a half years.

After the provincial government's assurance that the dam will be built in the given time, the top court wrapped up the case. Bahria Town offered the provincial government last year that it will build the dam in a joint venture with DHA.
