An accountability court accepted on Monday former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faryal Talpur’s request for protective bail in the money laundering through fake accounts case.

Both the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders appeared before the court for hearing. During the hearing, another suspect Sher Muhammad, expressed his willingness to become approver in the fake accounts case.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor informed the court that Sher's application has been received by the bureau and that it was reviewing the application. During the previous hearings, two suspects Kiran and Noreen had also expressed their willingness to testify as witnesses and had also filed an application in this regard with the NAB chairman.

Judge Arshad Malik accepted the bail petitions and granted a 10-day protective bail to the siblings. The judge also directed the siblings to submit Rs 2 million each as bonds. The court has adjourned the case proceedings till May 9, local media reported.

Speaking to the media outside the court, the PPP co-chairperson asserted that the country's economy and the NAB cannot work simultaneously. He said, "Either the economy or the bureau can work".

Answering a question regarding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf completing its tenure, Zardari replied, "God forbid."
