CJP ensures model trial courts will deliver speedy justice

The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa said on Saturday that in order to ensure timely conclusion of cases, the model trial courts will not grant adjournments.

Addressing a conference in Islamabad, the CJP contended that it is his aim to give expeditious justice since he has become the chief justice. He said that the initiative of model courts has been taken to ensure delivery of speedy justice to the people. The chief justice continued that judiciary is responsible for serving prompt justice and the model courts will not grant any adjournments.

The CJP further said that if the lawyer cannot be present his junior will be appointed, if the plaintiff is not present an alternative way will be found so that there are no delays in the proceedings. Talking about US, the CJP said that the US Supreme Court (SC) wraps 80 to 90 cases every year. In Pakistan, the CJP said that SC wrapped up 26,000 cases last year.

The CJP added that they have tried to impress upon the Inspector Generals of Police to make certain that investigations are completed within the given time frame and challans are also presented on time.

The chief justice was of the opinion that the parliament and the government should also work towards bringing improvement in the justice system.  He said that till now, they have sent 70 reports to parliament and the law ministry.
