With solar panels being incorporated in almost everything including roof tops, billionaire Elon Musk believes that 2019 will be the year of solar roofs.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who recently unveiled the Model Y, shared his vision for the firm’s future. He said that he believes ‘this is definitely going to be the year of the Solar Roof and Powerwall’, according to Inverse.

After a successful launch of its car, Tesla seems to be shifting its focus from vehicles to homes, ensuring a complete sustainable future. “Solar plus battery plus electric vehicles, we have a fully sustainable future,” Musk said during the unveiling of the Model Y SUV. “That’s a future you can feel really excited and optimistic about. I think that really matters.”

Tesla’s solar roof looks similar to standard roof tiles with a sleek design, however, it has only made way to some of the houses. But Musk plans to change that soon and incorporate them into more houses. Musk explained that these efforts of introducing solar panels more will ‘ultimately be really critical for transitioning the world to sustainable energy’.

The tech entrepreneur claimed that the team can now ‘finally allocate engineering attention’ to solar projects. Musk mentioned that the firm will also continue its efforts with Powerpack, which delivers many gigawatt-hours of energy in many countries.
