Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has been barred from travelling abroad after his name was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) president's name has been placed on the ECL on the interior ministry's orders and has been barred from traveling abroad for 30 days. The interior ministry has completed a summary to place the opposition leader's name on the no-fly list which will be sent to the federal cabinet, local media reported.

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had request the ministry to place Sharif's name on the no-fly-list in a case of him owning assets beyond known sources of income.

On February 14, the Lahore High Court had granted bail to Sharif  in the Ashiana Housing and the Ramzan Sugar Mills case. The opposition leader had been in NAB's custody since October 5 last year.
