Asif Zardari requests SC to stop FIA's investigation in fake accounts case

15 Feb, 2019

Former president Asif Ali Zardari filed on Friday another petition requesting the Supreme Court to restrain the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Joint Investigation Team (JIT) from probing the fake accounts case.

The plea was filed by Zardari’s lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa. In the petition, Zardari contends that the Supreme Court had ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to start investigation into the fake accounts case and directed the FIA to assist it. Zardari said that even though NAB had initiated its probe, the FIA was conducting its parallel investigation, local media reported.

He said the FIA was violating the SC's orders by continuing its investigation. The former president wrote in his petition that the FIA had summoned the legal adviser of the Zardari Group, Abu Bakr Zardari and questioned him. Zardari has requested the SC to bar the FIA from conducting its investigation.
