The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted on Tuesday its reply to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting it to dismiss the bail plea of incarcerated ex-premier Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia case.

During the hearing today, the anti-graft body said that Sharif's bail plea cannot be accepted on medical grounds, local media reported. The bureau told the court that the former premier was being provided the best medical treatment.

NAB requested the IHC to dismiss the bail appeal of Sharif in the Al-Azizia case. During the last hearing, the high court had issued notices to NAB and the superintendent Kot Lakhpat jail. The court had also sought medical reports of Sharif.

Sharif had filed a petition in the court, requesting to release him on bail on medical grounds. The former prime minister is currently serving his seven-year jail term at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
