Bhains Colony's union council chairman Rahim Shah was arrested on Monday in the murder case of Jeay Sindh Tehreek’s (JST) Karachi President Irshad Ranjhani.

The chairman was arrested on the orders of Additional Inspector General Karachi Dr Amir Shaikh. Speaking to the media, the inquiry committee said the UC chairman halted the attempts of the bystanders from taking the JST president to the hospital after shooting him.

They further said that a robbery attempt was made on the chairman and the murder was a result of that attempt. The committee said that the officer who was the first to reach the site had been suspended, local media reported.

CM Murad Ali wants answers regarding Irshad Ranjhani’s death

Last week, a video surfaced on social media showing Irshad lying on the road in a pool of blood. According to JST, Rahim had shot their president and then left him to die on the street.

However, Rahim’s account of the incident is different from the JST’s. Rahim told the police that men were following him after he had withdrawn money from the bank. He said two men on a motorcycle stopped him and in defence he fired from the licensed gun he carries. Later, the thief was identified as Irshad.

An inquiry committee led by the East Deputy Inspector General Amir Farooqui was formed on the orders of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Saturday.
