Pakistan, India to hold talks on Kartarpur Corridor today

04 Sep, 2019

Pakistan and India will hold the third round of talks on Kartarpur Sahib Corridor today (Wednesday) despite deterioration in the bilateral ties in the wake of Modi government's illegal annexation of Kashmir. The meeting is scheduled to take place on the Indian side of the Wagah-Attari Border where the two countries are expected to finalise the draft agreement pertaining to opening of the corridor.
Pakistan's delegation will be led by Director General South Asia and SAARC and Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal. The talks are being held after the technical experts of the two sides held deliberations last week. Pakistan has already completed 95 percent of the work on its side of the border as the proposed corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district.
This will be the first high-level contact between the two countries following Pakistan downgraded the diplomatic ties and trade relations with India in response to Modi government's illegal actions of August 5, revoking the special status of the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
