Call for lifting ban on import of lambs from Afghanistan

06 Aug, 2019

Traders and tribesmen on Monday urged the authorities concerned to lift ban on import of lambs from Afghanistan via Torkham border. Talking to media persons, the traders said they are ready to pay customs duty on import of lambs from Afghanistan as in last year. However, they said the authorities have imposed ban on transportation of lambs from Afghanistan this year, which was worst step of the authorities and strongly condemnable.
The traders said a large number of people, attached with business of lambs were unemployed since the imposition of ban on import of lambs from Afghanistan. They further said that due to increasing price-hike and poverty, the people couldn't afford expensive sacrificial animals, which were available in down towns.
So, they said if the authorities were allowed the import of lambs from Afghanistan then they will buy the sacrificial animals on reasonable price for Eid-ul-Azha. They demanded of the authorities at the Torkham border to lift ban on import of lambs from Afghanistan so that they could get sacrificial animals on low rates on the arrival of Eid-ul- Azha.
