20 Jul, 2019

A local court on Friday extended physical remand of Mian Tariq Mahmood, prime suspect in the case of controversial video of former Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik, for three days and granted him into custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The FIA official produced Mian Tariq Mahmood
before Civil Judge Shaista Kundi on expiry of his remand term along with his medical report.
The name of accused Tariq was mentioned by the judge in his affidavit submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on July 12.
"I was visited by Mian Tariq (an old social acquaintance when I was serving in Multan as additional district and sessions judge from 2000 to 2003) and his son. Mian Tariq showed me a secretly recorded manipulated immoral video in a compromising position, saying that it is you doing this when you were serving in Multan," said the affidavit.
The accused was arrested by the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing on July 16 from Islamabad and a first information report (FIR) was registered against him and others in the video case.
During the hearing, the FIA prosecutor told the court that the investigators have recovered a 4 GB device from the suspect and also submitted its forensic report.
Mahmood said during the hearing that the device was not recovered by the FIA from him but it was voluntarily submitted by him.
The prosecutor further said that the accused has also pointed towards some other people who are allegedly involved in the scandal. He requested the court to extend physical remand of the accused in order to complete investigation.
Defence counsel while objecting to FIA's request said that FIA has competed investigation therefore its application should be rejected.
The court approved three days physical remand and directed the agency not to torture the accused.
