NAB team grills Nawaz in Toshakhana vehicles case

A team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday questioned the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif here at Kot Lakhpat prison in Toshakhana vehicles case. Sources claimed that the NAB team posed some questions to Nawaz and also handed over a questionnaire to him. Nawaz told the NAB team that he never used any illegal car in his tenure. The Cabinet Division was responsible for the purchase and usage of the government vehicles, the sources quoted him as having said.
It may be noted that Nawaz was sentenced to seven years in prison and was fined Rs 1.5 billion and $25 million in the Al-Azizia corruption reference by an accountability court on December 24, 2018. Besides, he was also disqualified from holding any public office for the period of 10 years. The disqualification will go into effect following his release from jail after serving the seven-year sentence.
Moreover, the NAB has summoned PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif in a reference against him. The NAB has asked Shehbaz to visit the Lahore office at 2pm along with details of assets, bank accounts and cars. He has also been ordered to present information regarding receiving Rs 11.22 crore in foreign currency in 2009. Earlier, Shahbaz Sharif had announced not to apply for interim bail prior to appearing before the NAB.
