How ironic it is that although Muslims in India constitute nearly 11 percent of total population, their representation in parliament or Lok Sabha is less than five percent. Narendra Modi's victory in the 2019 election could be seen as a referendum on Modi's Hindu-first politics that have bred intolerance toward Muslims and other religious minorities, as well as his muscular stance on Pakistan, with whom India nearly went to war earlier this year.
There is not even a single Muslim among 303 BJP candidates who have won in the 2019 election. Muslim political alienation will surely deepen.
