KE digs up road causing difficulties for commuters

03 May, 2019

Traveling on the one-kilometer stretch on one track of University Road from Sunday Bazaar to NIPA has become an uphill task for the thousands of commuters who use the main thoroughfare everyday.
K-Electric (KE) has dug up the road for development work without proper planning for traffic diversion or alternative traffic routes.
The worst hits were commuters on the way to work in the morning rush hour and those returning home after office hours. Several ambulances also remained stuck in the traffic jam, with patients in need of emergency care stranded amid the sea of cars and motorcycles.
In some cases, vehicles ran out of fuel due to the long wait and had to be pushed to the side of the road. Long queues of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles have become a common sight on one side of the one-kilometer stretch.
The condition has worsened because the service lane near the Sindh Accountant General's office has been choked due to narrow lane in very bad condition having big ditches hindering traffic flow. The motorists, buses, cars who were using the service lane remained stuck too.
KE started work on the road on April 3rd as part of its TP-1000 project after obtaining no objection certified from the concerned authorities which is unlikely to be completed before advent of Ramazan.
