The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to appear before it on March 26. Sources said that NAB Rawalpindi has summoned Shah in the Thatta Sugar Mills case. The NAB has asked Chief Minister Sindh to produce all record related to the Thatta Sugar Mills case, they said.
The JIT investigating fake account case found that while approving a very low bid for the Thatta Sugar Mills against the advice of the then finance secretary, the then finance minister and current Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah strongly recommended the summary in favour of the Omni Group on the grounds that it will create jobs for locals. A loan of Rs 895 million was also provided to the mills by the Sindh government. Murad Ali Shah also allegedly acted as a facilitator to the group by paying Rs 7.19 billion in subsidies to it.
